DROUGHT 1200

Kim Anno collaborated as a director with students; Naka Dance company’s Jose Navarette, Debby Kajiyama, Amara Tabor Smith, Emily Leap, and Kevin O’Connor; musicians Kristina Dutton,  Kanoko Nishi Smith, and Crystal Pascucci;  with Jeanne Finley’s video, “Protocol”, to create an interdisciplinary dance program that presents the startling statistics, data, and disruptive reality when water becomes scarce in the State of California. The current drought had been identified as the most severe drought in the last 1200 years. The consequences are social, and political as endured differently by those who own historical water rights and those who don’t.  Spectacular visual components include plunging in a barrel of water, giant text cutaway floating billboards, sound collage, and original music.
